Skelton cites many examples and not an overwhelming amount of statistics. But, this is not the best book to use to get an in-depth understanding into the ever-changing world of evolution. You would need to use other text to get a complete and comprehensive picture.

A comprehensive text introducing the mechanisms of evolution at all scales, the genetic (with brief references to molecular aspects), through other biological aspects (natural selection and adaptation; behavioural and ecological influences; specification), to the palaeontological scale (analysis of macroevolutionary patterns to identify influences), illustrating the hierarchy of processes involved.
