Norris|An annoying thing about 's listing of this book is that the volume is not a 2004 update to the 1998 version, but is, in fact, the 1998 version. Even so, this book is currently one of the few text books on the market that covers paleoecology as a discipline. There have been a number of recent volumes on topical aspects

Discusses reconstruction of the past ecological world at population, community and biogeographic levels. A well-illustrated and substantial volume giving accessible coverage of the full range of subjects within palaeoecology. Reviews and summarises all the major mass extinctions.
